“The story is well thought out and interesting, but the female characters and their experiences are poorly written and reflect classic male gaze tropes: a heroine who’s gorgeous but doesn’t know it experiences violence at the hands of another man as soon as the show starts, then calls another man and begs him to save her. This quality is especially noticeable in details describing women’s appearance and dress, which are boringly moralizing (when the heroine is assaulted, she’s wearing a “too short” dress; when we meet a new character, she’s wearing “too much” mascara). I don’t say this to be an idpol scold - men can and do write great, complicated female characters - but it makes this particular show cringingly hard to listen to at times. Still, if this doesn’t bother you, it’s a fun story & listen!”
