Good and could go deeper
Loved the Stavrakopoulou interview! Best episode. The others are fine, but I was surprised that there wasn’t much that dealt with deeper themes of the narratives. It felt like a good bit of it was like listening to a SparkNotes summary of the narrative, which is obviously fine but you want it to go deeper once the ground has been laid. For example, why no discussion of the exilic/post-exilic context for the dialogue between YHVH and Abraham about S’dom and ‘Amora as a motivation for a scene all about the question of YHVH’s justice? So much to discuss in terms of the dating of different layers of the text and the discourse about JE/non-P and the different theories of editing/authorship/etc. Instead the scholarly side of the episode focused on the etiological nature of the scenes with Lot’s wife and Lot’s incestuous children. This is also fine, but felt like some of the less exciting questions about these texts. It just didn’t go as deep as many of McClellan’s much shorter TikTok’s. Also would have been nicer to have the second half of the episode tied in somehow with the first half. The discussion of unprovenanced artifacts was certainly interesting but felt like an abrupt change of subject. The hosts have only just launched the podcast, so it’s worth sticking around to see if it gets to a place where there are deeper insights and more discourse.

My new favorite podcast! The funny banter along with the subject matter makes me laugh out loud, even while learning something new!

I was eager to listen to the first episode after hearing about this new podcast. It sounded like a novel idea but I found it odd how the biblical “scholar” was presenting a view that seemed to take what I’d call a more secular view of the Bible and using every opportunity to present contrary...Read full review »

Really interesting pods that...Read full review »
