Mismatched Hosts
As interested as I am in the subject matter, and as much as I appreciate McClellan’s careful analysis of biblical fact and debunking of biblical fiction, he also does all the hosting on the show. Beecher seems to be there as a set-up man, but he spends most of the time being unhumorously sarcastic and clumsily leading for the discussion topics. It’s a clunky dynamic but I could’ve overlooked it, until Beecher cracked multiple uncomfortable, virtual “no homo” jokes during the “Bible on Homosexuality” episode during Pride Month, no less. “But we don’t know anything about that” when McClellan is explaining dominant/submissive vs. switch roles in partnerships is an unacceptably tone-deaf wisecrack for two middle-aged, straight White men who should already have been cognizant of their social position relative to the topic. Unsubscribing, and disappointed to be doing so because the peanut gallery portion of the show undermines great work otherwise.

This is such a good podcast I wish everyone listened to. It blows my mind daily and I’m sad that I finished all the episodes and there isn’t more to come.
