“The culmination of years of war. Technological advancement. Planing. Subterfuge. Selfless sacrifice by ordinary men and women. Bravery beyond comprehension. A calculated gamble that would determine the history of the world.
Thanks seems such a pathetic tribute to all involved. What we can do is listen to the stories. Appreciate and try to understand the sacrifice.
Always remember. Always honour. Always be grateful for all of them. Both those who came home, those who didn’t and those haunted by that day for the rest of their lives.
With love to my Great Uncle Joe. An infantryman who landed on SWORD beach with his brothers of the East Yorkshire Regiment.
June 6. 1944.”
