Room to Improve
UPDATED to 4 Stars Comes across as a Southern Nancy Drew in a post-Veronica Mars era, aimed at teens. Meaning it’s not bad, but it could be better. The actor does well except she sounds way older than she’s supposed to. It works when she’s voicing other characters - but less so as the lead, who’s in her early 20’s. Spoilers ahead: * No idea why the main character is obsessively paranoid about being assaulted, from the very first episode. There seems to be no logical reason as to why. It’s annoying, but it’s also a really negative message of unhealthy fearfulness (there’s no follow through on making her stronger except using her real name?! Come on, now). The whole “clueless person solves a crime no professional can” has been done better by other podcasts, but again - as of Episode 9 the narrative improves. Overall, this is growing on me. I look forward to eventually hearing more from the writer and actor.
