“This podcast was life-changing and life-affirming. Extremely well done, with compassion, sensitivity, and tenderness. A compelling portrait of Alana emerges as a passionate, faith-filled, sensitive, vibrant young woman. As a Catholic, I appreciate the skillful and deft way the narrator shows, not tells, the disappointing lack of accountability and real physical and emotional absence of the church after the tragedy of Alana’s suicide. At the same time, the narrator’s treatment of the Church is far from simple-minded. Intuitively I felt that this podcast was composed by someone who has glimpsed the beauty, truth, and promise the Church holds—far from the reductive religion-bashing that can be prevalent among secular liberals. This work was clearly crafted by someone who loves and knows the queer community and who also, in a complicated way, knows and loves the Church—at least someone who understands how intoxicating the love of God can be. This podcast changed and healed something in me. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.”
