Masterful storytelling
Helen Molesworth’s probing exploration of the suspicious and untimely death of the artist Anna Mendieta gets at the heart of the biggest issues in art history today. With great empathy and skill, Molesworth’s journalism assesses the events and circumstances that immediately proceeded and thereafter followed from Mendieta’s death. In so doing, she acknowledges that art and artists don’t exist in privileged isolation. Rather, they intersect with and consequently impact our daily lives and shape our lived experiences. Consequently, this podcast concludes that it matters when the gatekeepers elide certain truths from our messy history as a discipline. Bravo Helen for helping to illuminate the way towards a more ethical art history.

Excellent show. I was getting a bit tired of true crime podcasts, but this one is so much more than that. It’s not just a true crime show but also raises important questions about the dynamics of the art world. I didn’t know much about Anna, but now I’m a fan.
