Symphony for a Starving City
Usual cold war anti-communist American slant poisons the memory of the incredible heroism and patriotism of Shostakovich, Leningraders and the Soviet peoples. If you ever get to Petersburg forget the Faberge eggs and go out to the incredibly moving Piskarevsoe Memorial cemetery where 2 million Leningrader victims of the Nazi siege are interred. In your memory You’ll hear Dmitri Shostakovich’s music. The episodes overemphasis on the evils of Stalin belittles the incredible patriotism and heroism of the composer and his nation.

Thanks for this informative and insightful show! I will mention that I enjoyed episodes that dived more into the composer themselves (the Beethoven episode was my favorite) than the historical context. Also, please do an episode of Chopin!
