Description
Finally finishing up our Spice Girls, “Spiceworld” journey. Sorry for the delay once again, but we hope you guys enjoy this one. In this episode, Angie (@poetrysoul3) and Steffi (@inn_mho) break down the rest of the Spiceworld era. To begin the episode, we read through some of our listener feedback. Again, thanks so much for sending in your thoughts! We also go through some quick Diva Headlines - Spice Girls reunion at Geri’s 50th birthday part (Mel B, where you at???) and the trailers for the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic. In our Era Breakdown episodes, we touch on so many topics like career context, controversies/scandals of the era, marketing, music videos, live performances, album stats, and the album & era’s ultimate impact and legacy. For this episode, we discuss the unique way that the Spice Girls were marketed and all of the endorsement/brand deals that they did. Shoutout to Pepsi! Of course, we can’t talk about “Spiceworld” without briefly discussing the cinematic classic “Spice World”. We then discuss our favorite music videos, live performances and go through all the Spice-y receipts. And finally, we bring the Spice Bus home by ending on a very important question: Did Geri cement the Spice Girls’ pop culture legacy by leaving the way that she did? Album Info: Spiceworld is the second studio album by English girl group the Spice Girls, released on 1 November 1997 by Virgin Records. Its music incorporates dance-pop music and production. The album became a commercial success worldwide, lengthening the so-called "Spicemania" of the time. It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, with first-week sales of 190,000 copies and shipped 1.4 million copies in two weeks. The album also reached number one in 13 countries, while peaking inside the top three in Australia, Canada, France, Switzerland and the United States. Spiceworld has sold over 14 million copies worldwide, making it one of the world's best-selling albums by a girl group. *Email us for show notes: [email protected] *Twitter & Instagram: @divadailiespod *YouTube: Diva Dailies Podcast STEFFI’S SOCIAL MEDIA: *Twitter & Instagram: @inn_mho *YouTube: innmyhumbleopinion ANGIE’S SOCIAL MEDIA: *Twitter: @poetrysoul3 *YouTube: Sleepy Nerd Productions TIME STAMPS: - Housekeeping (01:00) - Listener Feedback (03:14) - Diva Headlines (19:38) Era Breakdown (10:33) - But We Need the Audience to Buy the Album - Video Killed the Radio Star - The Mic Is On - Show Me the Receipts - Impact/ Closing Thoughts - Preview Next Week’s Episode
