Sad, but people need to take responsibility for their actions
It is truly sad that that Josh passed away. Society is certainly struggling with mental health, addiction, and other social woes. I feel sorry for the friends and family who have to suffer. With respect to the podcast, I was very disappointed that the ultimate storyline was to blame the parole system basically for the death of this man which is just absurd. Josh was 39 years old, an adult. Yes he had issues but the parole board did not force him to drink and get kicked out his free housing. They didn’t force him to act inappropriately and get kicked out of his friends house. They didn’t force him not to call Chis’ friends’ construction company and get a good paying job with benefits. He needed to take responsibility and he didn’t. The only thing the parole board did wrong was to not send him immediately back to jail after his first mishap. I’m glad he didn’t take someone else’s life with his irresponsible actions. What also frustrates me is that the podcast blames the parole board but makes no suggestions on how fix it. What could have been done different? The problem in the society that we live in is that it’s always someone else’s fault. People don’t want to own their own lives. They would rather screw up constantly and just blame it on the police, blame it on their parents, blame it on their teachers or their government. NHPR, please do a podcast on a former inmate who got out on parole and actually took responsibility for their actions and made a new, successful life for themselves. If you think this podcast was inspiring, it was not.

I worked for 12 years in law-enforcement, with 10 of those being in the correctional system and probation and parole, and two as a municipal police officer. Emily, you covered this story perfectly. Im very disappointed to see the criticism from others that you didn’t cover the subject matter to...Read full review »

This story was really good. I’m sad about the ending and didn’t expect it to end at just that. My only problem is I wish there were another season. Maybe cover more of the process along with how the individuals adjust to life outside of bars again. Don’t let Emily’s little voice trick you, she is...Read full review »
