“I find each podcast insightful and always have something to think through and apply to my own parenting of 4 children and in my job as a primary teacher. I was particularly challenged to think about parent control and how I am ‘motivating’ my children to practise their instruments. I totally agree and see in reflection how telling my children repeatedly to practise is unhelpful for the long term goal of instilling a love for music and a self motivated desire to play. Tonight we started something new. We had a showcase night where each person in the family played something they were working on. Dad- played the spoons which made us all laugh, mum - sang ‘one finger one finger mountain mountain song, Miss 12- practise all her flute pieces for her mock exam tomorrow, Miss 10- played her favourite 3 saxophone pieces, mr 8- played the only 2 songs he’s learnt on trumpet so far and mr 6- sang Mary had a little lamb as he doesn’t learn anything yet. It was such a great time together and the kids are motivated to learn something for next Sunday night. Thanks again Justin.”
