A creative view of a creative passion.
Drummer Talk is more than just a technical broadcast, educational podcast, or artist spotlight. Dave Kropf (a percussionist and instructor at a Tennessee private school) and his assorted array of cohosts and cohorts mix humour with tech, creative expression with personal opinion, but all without coming across as overly didactic. Granted, there are moments of pure drum geek humour and even a toy accordian, but the end result is a purely entertaining, yet informative and honest look at how a diverse group of musicians view their instrument and the world it opens for them. Audience participation is encouraged via the Drummer Talk forums, and there's a diverse community that has grown along with the podcast. Casual musicians will enjoy the kitchen table atmosphere of the show. For a technical percussionist, there's plenty of tech talk and personal viewpoints on gear, method, and style. For a more relaxed player, there's a comfort in familiar topics and an easygoing style of presentation that engages, enlightens, and entertains.
