In May 2023, I had a great conversation with Jeff Swartz, who is a friend and businessman working in Tokyo, Japan. He is a father and works for a globalization-focused company. Here is that interview.
EASY ENGLISH GRAMMAR POINT for EPISODE #5
In today’s interview, please listen for when Jeff and Kris talk about opinions and feelings. When English speakers do that, they use adjectives. For example:
It was horrible!
I felt amazing!
It was strange to be in a new country.
EASY ENGLISH USAGE POINT for EPISODE #5
The second thing I would like to focus on in today’s interview is the use of phrases like “Do you mean…?” and “So, you mean…?” to check for understanding.
For example:
Someone says, “This music really speaks to me”.
and you say, “Do, you mean you like this music?”
or
“So, you mean you like this music?”
So now, sit back, relax, and enjoy this interview with Jeff.
COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS FOR EPISODE #5
* What year did Jeff first come to Japan?
* Where is Jeff’s company based?
* What time is Jeff usually on the bus in the morning?
* Where did Jeff meet his colleagues in September?
* Where does Jeff live now?
* Where is Jeff originally from?
* About how long is the shopping street in Musashikoyama?
* How old are Jeff’s sons?
* What does Jeff want to do after he retires?
* What is Jeff’s number 1 advice for learning English?
