I had the pleasure of conversing with Angel Romero, the current 2023 Los Angeles Chapter ASSP President, about the crucial topic of mentorship in the EHS profession. Our discussion shed light on the current state of the industry and how mentorship can play a vital role in the growth of EHS practitioners. Angel expressed his thoughts on the significance of mentorship, highlighting how it can help new professionals gain valuable experience and knowledge from seasoned experts. He also pointed out that mentorship can bridge the gap between generations of EHS professionals, transferring knowledge and expertise that can be priceless in advancing the profession. We acknowledged the significant progress made in recent years in the EHS profession while also recognizing that there is still much work to be done, particularly in areas such as diversity and inclusion. However, Angel remains optimistic about the future of the profession. Throughout our discussion, Angel emphasized the importance of continuous learning and development in the EHS field. He stressed that mentorship is a crucial component of this ongoing growth, providing professionals with the guidance and support they need to thrive in this ever-evolving field. Overall, my conversation with Angel was enlightening and inspiring.
