It’s a fact of life that things age. I, too, am ageing, quite well I think but yes, all things age, and entertainment ages as well. Rewatching something from just a few years ago may make you question your own sanity and life choices. Something that seemed so poignant at the time, something you connected with back then, now seems like a complete disappointment. Gangster No. 1 tries to add a uniquely English charm to the whole Gangster movie genre. The film covers the rise of a London criminal gang with its roots set in the 1960s. Originally a stage play, the movie adaptation was tarnished with some controversy due to the original writers, Louis Mellis and David Scinto’s screenplay being poked and fiddled with, and the casting choices being dictated to them by the producers. In the end, they said f it and left, citing artistic differences. Both writers later went on to get the film, Sexy Beast, made instead.
