“Truly disappointed in the episode Worm Wars where they talk about how we shouldn’t be racist to plants and insects. Like, I believe there are racism issues present in ecology, but it is not about wanting to eradicate invasive species which are proven to be harmful to our environments. They drew comparisons to how our culture talks about immigrants and didn’t mention that the real issue is dehumanizing human beings and instead focused on how this was unfair to invasive species.
When a host mentioned that the invasive plants in their yard seem really bad, the response was that “plants have always moved around the globe” and that the idea of a native plant is socially constructed. Do they not realize how they sound anti-global warming people use “the planet has always had climate changes” or how people will downplay racism will bring up “we all came from Africa”? Ask anyone who knows about the subject and they will say the issue is THE RATE at which our environments are changing and being taken over by invasive species and that it is caused by humans and is largely preventable. Just because one professor somewhere has an idea doesn’t mean it is good or worthwhile.”
