Pretty good but often problematic
Interesting podcast, well researched, I enjoy the cases from around the world. Main complaints: Despite the introduction’s insistence that the creators have the utmost respect for their victims, the host often uses troubling language to describe victims. Sex workers are usually referred to as “prostitutes,” drug addicts are scathing referenced as “feeding the habit,” etc. One episode actually describes a murder victim who was caught in human trafficking and an abusive relationship as “not exactly an upstanding citizen.” It’s getting to the point that I find it difficult to listen. The victim-blaming and thinly veiled contempt for any victim the host deems a “low life” chafes. Other complaint is the dialogue is often cringingly cliche. “That fateful day,” “little did they know,” “and that [dramatic pause] was the last time anyone ever saw her alive again,” etc. The script could do with better editing.

The narrator has the weirdest speech cadence I’ve ever heard. I suspect he’s been told to slow down his speech, but it results in a stilting style with inflection on the wrong words. Like William Shatner.

Narrator has a wonderful timbre to his voice and such that I don’t tune out mentally when doing chores and have to rewind. Have binge listened to the whole...Read full review »
