“So I follow all of the different podcasts Lorenzo puts out, even though they could probably all fall under one show. There are a few things that do irk me about the show.
1st: audio production quality is pretty bad, depending on who is calling in and what not. Even the intro can be wildly more loud than the rest of the show. It needs better mixing.
2nd: Lorenzo himself. The man is a wealth of F-14 knowledge, which is very impressive, especially since he’s just a fan of the plane. One of my problems with him is he refuses to acknowledge the huge negatives of the F-14, and acts as if it were the perfect aircraft. He also throws in a lot of jokes and jabs at other aircraft, and service branches with a sort of arrogance as if he were prior Navy. Which, if he were prior Navy or another branch, it really wouldn’t bother me at all (I’m a veteran of two branches myself). Its ultimately comes off super cringy and somewhat disrespectful. It’s like he’s trying to come off as “one of the tomcat guys”, but it’s blatantly obvious to any veteran that the jokes he’s making are coming off as trying to fit in with the crowd. He’s trying so hard, but the jokes sound like someone who thinks that is what military dudes would say, vs what they actually would say. It’s noticeable too because he will jab at the Super Hornet, or say some cringy Navy joke that only someone who’s never been in would say, and there is just awkward silence or nervous laughter. One episode one of the Tomcat guys stepped in and slightly defended the hornet based off an ignorant nudge Lorenzo made.
Overall, his heart is in the right place, and the content is pretty solid, but he comes off arrogant and ignorant to a lot of things, and it’s off putting.”
