For a while now, there have been two competing trends in the United States. At the federal level, there has been more centralization, the introduction of more levels of bureaucracy, more attempts to chip away at the Second Amendment, and so on.
At the same time, however, at the local level, many municipalities have been moving in the opposite direction, declaring themselves to be “constitutional counties” wherein any effort to infringe on the constitutional rights of their citizens will be treated as criminal activity—even if it’s done by state or federal officials.
