“Unless you’re a committed creationist (regardless of the lack of reliable evidence for it), this podcast is a waste of time.
Presented by Dr. John Ashton, who I hoped would give some good scientific arguments for young earth creation, I listened to(endured) about eight episodes. This podcast is full of hearsay, fallacious thinking and doubtful references (mostly from suspect young earth creation sources). I was disappointed that Dr. John, with a PhD from a reputable institution in a science based area didn’t structure his arguments more robustly and convincingly. Instead we are subjected to unreferenced comments from somebody somewhere or references to unqualified sources(I’m sure I can rely on an Emergency Medicine Physician for expert advice on Paleontology). We’re given very weak evidence for the reliability of prayer even though much published research has found no significant effect from intercessory prayer.
Like all young earth creationists, Dr. John approaches his world view by shoehorning “evidence” into his predetermined conclusion rather than using the scientific methodology he learned as a researcher.
He also uses the well worn conflation that all those subscribing to evolution are part of an atheist agenda. You’d better check out some of the religious individuals and Christian organisations that subscribe to evolution. In particular check out Dr. Mary Schweitzer, the first to report “soft tissues in fossil bones of T Rex. Also while you’re doing that, just confirm for yourself that Dr. Schweitzer is a committed Christian.
I’m sure the congregants at Dr. John’s local Seventh Day Adventist Church will gladly sit there and listen to someone in authority, but without relevant qualification, give them re-assuring misinformation regarding the young earth.
This is as much as I wish to devote to this podcast and it’s critique. I simply can’t be bothered going through the entire lot and referencing every criticism.
Just don’t bother listening unless you enjoy frustration and anger. Very disappointed Dr. John I expect more from a very well credentialed scientist!!!!
Oh and by the way, next time pray to god to protect your children from harm not to provide you with a picket fence.....Just saying.”
