“I enjoyed Scrubs for its entire original run. I was thankful every year when somehow it got renewed, despite seeming to be constantly on the cutline. I hadn’t watched it in a while when I stumbled across this podcast a year ago, so I thought I’d do a rewatch with the rewatch.
Fast forward a year and I’ve rewatched the show twice - I started pacing episodes with the podcast but my enjoyment got the best of me, and after I finished all of the episodes the first time I went back and watched most of them again, in sync with the podcast. It’s lots of fun to listen to Zach and Donald talk about the show, notice things in the background, tell stories, interview guest stars, and analyze what’s wrong with season 9, not to mention hearing Joelle and Danl go from producer and editor to core members of the group.
I got to experience the show all over again and in a new light.
There’s two things that prevent me from giving FDRF five stars - first, it kicked off at the beginning of the pandemic. Initially it was interesting listening to them recap events as they happened - but after a while, their pandemic commentary devolved into the same old sanctimonious garbage that was so common on social media at the time, and that got old fast. The second is that the language and subject matter get pretty extreme - from sexually graphic to near constant discussion of drug use to the occasional usage of highly offensive terms (although Joelle does a masterful job at steering Zach and Donald through culturally sensitive material - I learned more than a few things from her).
That said . . . don’t let those things ruin it. Listen to the parts you enjoy, be willing to fast forward segments and skip episodes when you need to.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed FDRF and I’m thankful to everyone involved for helping me rekindle my love for one of my favorite shows of all time. All in all, Bill created an amazing podcast and it’s absolutely worth listening to.”
