Not what I was expecting
The podcast description, and intro to first episode, alluded to providing information and first hand experience to inexperienced and novice growers. In the very first episode we’re talking about overwintering crops and how this guy has built “social equity” in his community. I was attracted to this series because I wanted true insight in how this person got started, how they planned their first year, how they got their first restaurant. Yet we immediately jumped 5 years in and Curtis is saying he doesn’t grow for people he doesn’t have a relationship with and then chuckles about it; which is slightly arrogant but to each their own. When asked “how did you acquire your most recent 7 restaurants?” His response was “well they approached me haha” That not the response your audience wants to here, how did you build the first relationship with a restaurant, was it awkward doing it at first, how do you get someone to pay for product before it’s even grown? These are the questions I was hoping for. Understandably you don’t want to give out your entire SOP, so we don’t need a step-by-step guide on exactly what to do. But how did you get things off the ground? Okay now what was it like to scale the business, and what are future plans looking like for scalability? There is some great information here but it doesn’t feel like a place for someone just now learning.

As a small scale farmer, I came upon this podcast series when I heard (I believe) Curtis Stone say “instead of tuning out to music as you’re harvesting or doing mundane farm tasks, educate yourself listening to podcasts!” That is such a true statement. I love listening to Diego and his guests as...Read full review »
