“Love your show/mission…
I think you could have pushed back a little more on your guest’s statement that 98% of black students at Harvard graduate…
that may be true… the trick at most elite colleges is to find a way in… and once you’re in, it’s very tough to flunk out… no matter your skin color or whatever…
however, the layers of the onion need to be peeled back… a kid may come in to Harvard with, say, an SAT score of 1200 and a 3.5 GPA or whatever with aspirations for medical school… but they often find out quickly that they’re ill equipped to compete/keep up with the students who have a 1550 SAT score, a 4.5 GPA, and have passed AP tests in the hard sciences… and so they decide to trade their medical aspirations for, say, African American or Gender Studies or whatever…
They would’ve been better served going to a school where their academic preparation is more matched with other students…
There are pedagogical studies that bear this out…
Heather MacDonald is a good source for all of this…
