With so many similar products and services on the market, it can be difficult to stand out and make an impact. However, by understanding your expertise and target audience, you can eliminate the confusion in your branding and establish a strong brand identity that will help you stand out from the competition.
Branding is the foundation of any successful marketing strategy. Marketing helps spread the word about your business, but if you don't take the time to work on your branding first, you don't have much clarity, and you end up amplifying a weak message through your marketing.
In this episode, Ben interviews Henry Sims, the co-founder of Sims Media. Henry helps personal brands bring clarity and simplicity to how they brand and market themselves so that they can connect with their ideal clients.
He discusses the relationship between branding and marketing, how to differentiate your brand from the competition, and how you can be minimalistic in corporate and still stand out.
Quote Of The Day:
“Marketing is what you say about yourself, but branding is what others say about you when you’ve left the room.”~ Jeff Bezos

Key Takeaways:
“Marketing is what you say about yourself, but branding is what others say about you when you’ve left the room.”~ Jeff Bezos [03:44]Branding and marketing are sequential. You need the branding and then the marketing. The branding is the core of your messaging and your culture that your marketing amplifies [04:47]How you market yourself is going to be dictated by the way you define your brand, culture, and the message you want to put out there. If you don’t take the time to work on your branding first, then you don’t have much clarity, and you have a weak message and culture that you end up amplifying through your marketing [05:10]Within personal branding, it's more important to talk about you as a person than your business because there are so many similar businesses and services out there. Talking about yourself helps people to know, like, and trust you. [13:24] Branding aims to achieve a connection with your audience [14:28]If you show who you are as a person and your business, the two will combine to bring that personality to your business that will connect you with your ideal clients. [14:41]
Integration Assignment:
First, take out a piece of paper and write down your expertise. Second, think about who is the person that you can impact the most. Finally, look at your social channels online and ask yourself whether your expertise and the people you help clearly reflect in all those channels.
