Used to like this
At best naively, at worst arrogantly, two men have decided that, given their growing and well deserved media presence, they are now interesting enough to just chat harmlessly enough between each other, whilst expecting the listener to be entertained. Secretly, I think they know that they’re absolutely not, but now make it look that they’re aware of it, having retrospectively dressed it up as the main virtue of the show. Sometimes David Flatman appears painfully aware of it, seemingly reluctant to be involved at all. They confuse entertainment with their fields of interest. Namely, TV, food, family, stories where you needed to be there, cars and rugby. I like these things too. Unfortunately, they just don’t have the skill to make the first five interesting or entertaining, and the sixth barely features. It’s then you realise they’re ex rugby players, now pundits, who flail when they veer too far away from their main interest. You could get this down the pub, but you might find yourself looking around for a different conversation. It’s a real shame, I’ve listened since the first ep and genuinely like them both, but their friendship, shared past and chat, doesn’t stretch to a weekly upload.
