Assumptions - thinking you know  Common Causes of Broken Communication  Unspoken Expectations: Assumptions Discuss how unmet or unclear expectations lead to resentment. Example: Partner assumes the other "should know" their needs. Emotional Baggage: How past experiences (from childhood or previous relationships) impact communication styles. Stress and External Pressures: Work, finances, or parenting can shift focus away from meaningful conversations. Differences in Communication Styles: Verbal vs. nonverbal communicators; introvert vs. extrovert dynamics. Tech and Distractions: Over-reliance on phones or screens instead of face-to-face dialogue The Impact of Broken Communication (5 minutes) Explore emotional and relational consequences: Increased misunderstandings and conflicts.
