Vastly Knowledgeable Group of Level-Headed Individuals
There are 4 main members: - Ralph from the YT channel Skillup (VoD is on his channel) - Jake Baldino from Gameranx - Lucy James from GiantBomb, formerly of Gamespot - Jirard Khalil, the Completionist Ralph is my favourite reviewer for Video Games. His reviews are incredibly detailed, his criticism is justified, and praises those in the industry who have deserved it. He clearly shows he has both the customers and the developers best interests in the words he says. One of the most unique and valuable ways he differs from many other reviewers in this industry is he treats interactive entertainment as an art-form over a product, and sees the value in allowing developers the freedom to be creative. Jake, Lucy and Jirard are also incredibly relatable, articulate and kind - they show their passion for the community and wisdom from their years of experience. Jirard in particular has proven time and again how much he believes in the community by working with foundations and projects. The 4 members, while of similar backgrounds, have very different interests and tastes, which allows the conversations to flow dynamically and with flavour - each has their own unique perspective on each of the topics discussed. I particularly enjoy the descriptions Jake gives about some of the discussed games, and Lucy’s “funny-because-it’s-not-funny” jokes or her savage comebacks. The guests have their own knowledge to bring to the table, and give an insightful look into their unique history. The content is typically relevant to recent announcements, releases or controversies. It may not be interesting to start from episode 1 unless you are engaged mainly by the speakers themselves. One noticeable thing about the discussions is the tangents away from gaming, where often the speakers choose the reflect or compare events in gaming to other media, or even other disciplines entirely, which gives fresh perspectives on the discussion and really nails how knowledgeable the individuals really are. If you are interested in listening to the experiences of some of the industry’s greatest, this is the correct choice.
