Diversity
Generally love the podcast and appreciate all your work in this space. Was disappointing to not get a mention of the lack of diversity and opportunity presented to woc on the team. All of the women that were cut were black women essentially, which unfortunately was not a surprise. Cook, Purce, Williams, Macario, Sophia Smith, Krueger etc. Was hoping with vlatko coming in there would be a changing of the guard, but it’s more of the same. Using seniority as a basis to pick the team is just a cover to keep the status quo (whiteness). If using nwsl form isn’t a main factor in picking the team then how are new players (read black and brown) supposed to join the setup. This is a crystal dunn situation all over again. Lynn Williams is the nwsl all time assist leader but apparently she has pOoR eNd pRoDuCt, leroux is leading the nwsl in goals but can’t get a look in while Carli Lloyd stinks it up and has 0 goals this year but gets chosen because ppl are afraid of her. Picking players who consistently perform poorly or are injured comes across to a certain demographic of the woso fan base a specific way. I’m looking forward to the day when we can challenge some things in woso and have less toxic positivity, it only protects the status quo. Was hoping this would be challenged more but I guess I will just wait for the diaspora United pod for this kind of discussion. Justice delayed is justice denied.

More reviews of Full Time with Meg Linehan
Meg is the best women’s soccer reporter, she the only reason I got an Athletic subscription. So excited for this podcast and the opportunity to hear more from her!

My favorite thing to listen to each week. Can you do another episode on racism and Black Lives Matter in the soccer world?

I’ve been reading Meg’s articles on the Athletic religiously for awhile now... I’m excited to see her branch out into the podcast space. Great first episode that thoughtfully discusses both women’s soccer, but also our current social/political climate.
