Listen now
Description
“There's that culture of innovation versus nonprofit mindset where innovation for so long has been ‘move fast and break things’. When you work in child wellbeing, that's not an option. Moving fast and breaking things when it has to do child with children and families is not an option.” - Kelsey Driscoll Innovation in the for-profit world can be exciting and fast, leaving nonprofits envious of the advancements in technology and new processes. But that doesn’t mean nonprofits can’t push the boundaries and experience their own breakthroughs, it just looks a bit different.  Upbring is a Texas-based organization that has been around for nearly a century and a half, but its new Innovation Labs have been pushing the organization into the future.  Upring’s Innovation Labs was built by embedding innovation into the nonprofit world, particularly a legacy nonprofit. They’ve woven innovation into the fabric of their work while creating a risk-free environment, allowing the team to embrace new technologies and ideas far outside the scope of the traditional nonprofit tool kit. Kelsey Driscoll is a Senior Innovations and Partnerships Manager at The Innovation Labs. From her early school days, her mission has always been to leave a positive impact on others, but her career took different twists and turns to get to where she is now.  Through her work in the private sector and on The Hill in Washington, she has developed various skills that she applies to her goal now, which is to operate The Innovation Labs with minimal friction and allow Upbring, and the industry writ large, to reap the benefits of the team’s projects.  In this episode, Kelsey joins to share those invaluable skills from her “Goldilox” career, she’ll explain the design of The Innovation Labs and how that has been integral to its success, and how she’s putting herself in spaces that allow her to bring bleeding edge technology to the nonprofit space.
