Ruth revolves around two main problems: food and family. What Naomi needs is for God to fill her empty stomach with food and especially her empty family with the birth of a little boy. But how do Naomi's need for bread and a boy relate? Questions like this encourage us to begin considering how Jesus, the promised descendant of Ruth and Naomi comes to us as the Bread of Life. He, like Obed, brings a satisfaction that goes far beyond anything bread could ever give us.
