Ministry of Ungentlmenly Warfare
Great review of a very good movie…well worth the cost of popcorn. Random notes and observations….Good period piece of the roots of Special Operations as we know it today (See also Rogue Heroes which is also based on factual events.) Your reference to Imitation Game is well taken. A deep review of all the special operations in WWII is recounted in Anthony Cave Brown’s tome “Bodyguard of Lies” (Churchill: “In war the truth is so valuable , she must be accompanied by a bodyguard of lies.”) RE the audacity of the mission, British SAS motto is “Who Dares, Wins.” Movie also accurately portrays the outright animosity between the establisheconventional forces (in this case the Royal Navy) and the Special Operations community. It did seem that what could have been a killer line fell flat at least in the theater I was in….”This looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” Ian Fleming did indeed work in the Special Operations Executive (SOE.)
