The Ghibli fanboys podcast
A decent podcast, but the opening narration of “the world’s greatest animation studio” gives you a good idea of what exactly you’re going to get. Informative but at the same time sycophantic, it very much gives the impression that the hosts’ experience of Japanese animation is extremely limited outside Studio Ghibli. Which is fine if that’s all you’ve come for, but puts the studio on a higher pedestal than it deserves. Also, while acknowledged in later episodes, the repeated mispronunciation of titles and names doesn’t do the podcast any favours.

Brings up a winner. The Ghiblioteque folks have serious discussion about the greatest films in the world. I have learned a few things and mostly agreed with them. As an avid Ghibli watcher it was nice to listen and learn new things about the films as well as hearing the experiences of a first time viewer! Nice little bonus to the ghibliverse. Also enjoyed the tidbits at the end of each podcast!
