The Lonely One by Ray Bradbury -- Campfire Stories (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)

Description
Summer storms this morning. Campfire Stories are informal readings from a curated selection of some of my favorites. They will only ever be available to Patreon subscribers. You can support the show and help keep it going for $3 a month at https://www.patreon.com/GoblinMarket To lead us off we have The Lonely One by Ray Bradbury, actually an excerpted chapter from his novel Dandelion Wine, a book that is as near to my heart as any ever written. I grew up in Green Town, Illinois. The ravine is very much real-- I have been there myself. And while the city of Waukegan may be much bigger and much noisier than it was in 1928, the ravine, the eternal ravine, is unchanged. It is just as deep and just as dark on hot summer nights as it was in Bradbury's time, nearly 100 years ago now. You can visit it anytime you find yourself in northern Illinois, on the lake halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee. It will be waiting for you. Pray that the Lonely One is not.
