“I’ve listened to a huge slab of the back catalogue of this pod - the ep lengths are perfect, the crimes covered are interesting (with many unique to this pod, as I’ve not heard them recited on other TC casts), and overall production really good (without being overdone).
However, the hosts are super ‘wokey’ and constantly harangue the police, who are never quick enough, detailed enough, do the appropriate thing, take every claim seriously etc etc. Everything is the fault of the police. But - BUT! - there isn’t a victim who wasn’t the nicest of the nice! Every drug addled, booze filled, homeless, mentally unstable victim was also a ‘good parent’ and ‘dearly loved’ and was always ‘known to be the friendliest person’. No!
I’ve heard said on this pod multiple times (especially from Heath) that ‘we’re not victim shaming’. Fair enough. Let’s not blame the victim for their own death/ disappearance, but I wish the hosts were honest and properly highlighted the foibles of the victims which likely contributed to their fate. Instead you’ll hear that someone suffered mental health troubles, and how they were known to use recreational drugs = there’s a link there between drug use and mental health problems. Highlight it. People boasting of how much money they’ve got in the bank…and then vanishing. Let’s highlight the link. There’s no connection between poor choices and the affects/ impact, and ultimate resolution.
I wish I could give the pod a higher rating but the failure to point out, where appropriate, the victims failures, instead of just the perceived faults of law enforcement is exhausting. It’s not balanced properly. Or honest in that sense. Could be an excellent pod, but only rating it good because of this factor.
Also….they do love a female victim. Sexism? Maybe? Frankly I now only listen to the cases on male victims. The female ones all start to merge to sound the sound.”
