As a Brit living in the USA I find the fact that none of the major sports have promotion or relegation astounding however it brings with it long term stability and investment.
One thing that does create some jeopardy are the draft picks and the order that your team finishes. Whilst this process does attempt to even the playing field, it also promotes teams to lose intentionally. As we saw recently with Brian Flores and the Dolphins.
My proposal would be to add a secondary tournament running parallel to the Super Bowl/NBA finals etc. This would take any team not in the playoffs and bracket them through a tournament with the winners being given the number 1 overall pick and filtering down from there.
You get teams that are not great fighting for that draft pick that will change their teams fortune! Fan viewership is up. It’s a no brained right? Thoughts?”
