“I really appreciate the cadence of the host- he’s unafraid to turn his journalistic lens on himself.
A note that I attended a now defunct ‘emotional growth’ boarding school (bad kid boarding school for rich kids) called CEDU, which employed many of the same ‘exercises’ that this cult, Lifespring also used. Down to some of the same terminology- Mommy/ Daddy diads, the pit, mingles, etc. Requisite stillness with hands flat on our thighs. We had a variation of the coffin and giving ourselves a funeral as well. I had always thought this was unique to the rehab cult ‘Synanon’ that was the originator of the pricey school. But it sounds like these tactics were shared and got around.
There is a podcast which discusses my old school, I believe called ‘The Lost Kids’. I could not finish it myself, I found it too close to home. But I recommend a listen as well! Look forward to more episodes of this intriguing podcast.”
