Before Jesus begins his earthly ministry (performance), God confirms His Sonship (identity), in Luke 3:21-22. God is not looking for slaves. He is looking for sons and daughters to love, wanting to restore sonship. Root your identity upward rather than inward, and make your primary role His son, before you are anything else.
