Honor in Hebrew is kabad, meaning to value, esteem, and ascribe the weight due to a person for their position. Ephesians 6:1-3 repeats the command with the addition of "the first command with a promise," that of long life on the earth. Honor opens the door of blessing; dishonor slams the door shut. God calls us to be people who bring honor in a world where it is most often missing.
