Listenable, engaging, rigorous analysis
I’ve been listening to this podcast for the past 6 months during my daily commutes, during chores, and lol during labwork, and I always walk away with a foundation of how to understand each topic I’d previously only had vague impressions of. (Yemen, Haiti, sanctions as siege warfare, the British partition of the Middle East post-WW2, CIA coups, Chinese economic partnerships in Eurasia, the Allende socialist govt’s platform and coalition-building in Chile) The hosts are super listenable to me, remind me of friends who manage to have scholarly gravitas, pop culture literacy, chill but engaging energy, and who sincerely invested in a conversation where you get to discuss and have your most basic or in-depth questions answered. The personalities, speaking styles, and choice of / approach to revolutionary topics are definitely my favorite part of the podcasts. I’ll be recommending this podcast to anyone who’s hungry to understand the historical, materially informed / driven bigger picture of how the each country on today’s earth ended up as the wretched place we see them painted as in headlines in the New York Times, CNN, or Instagram’s “humanitarian fundraiser” ads, lol. I’m deeply in debt to this podcast’s hosts and guests for actually teaching me how to analyze any piece of media (mainstream news, etc.) or any development from any country or region in the world now, whereas the flood of “facts” and default history / social science “education” in the US (that isn’t remotely leftist, and is both communism-phobic and imperialism-legitimizing) just serves to exhaust and confuse its audience. Can’t wait to learn more from the hosts and use this podcast’s energy to step up my material engagement in leftist / anti-imperialist organizing.

As a 30-year old, I began to want to know more about my history, which I never cared about in high school. If that’s you too, don’t just read the best-selling books about Lincoln, or watch WWII documentaries. All that is the same basic facts over and over again. Guerila History is about the...Read full review »
