“Thank you, Frieda, for continuing to create and share about this community. Your long form interviews are really well done and I always look forward to a new one dropping. I grew up in a city with no ‘visible’ Jewish community (Brisbane, Australia) and only encountered the Hasidic community in Melbourne, which had/has one of the highest percentages of Holocaust survivors after Israel and New York, I think.
I particularly love the respect with which you treat your subjects, and your attitude to OTD stories being sensationalised in other media, or represented as very black and white, on/off, in or out. My curiousity about the different Hasidic communities does not derive from the Netflix shows. I have always distrusted them and so I was just delighted to discover your wonderful nuanced and respectful work.
If I ever get to New York, my first port of call will be to sign up for a tour of Hasidic Williamsburg with you. I cannot tell you how my mouth waters when you do your food reels! And like everyone else who has seen your interviews, I would love to meet Pearl! She is a star and so are you. Please keep going with your work, I really hope it’s as rewarding for you as it is to your viewers.”
