“The first three seasons were great and the topics in the fourth are interesting and new. However in the newest season I think the reporting is not very nuanced and comes across as very judgemental and verging on benefiting from the misery of others.
I wanted to write this review after listening to the most recent episode about ‘Britains Super Jail’ because Naomi infers that the prisoners are having a great time seconds after reporting that a prisoner had died which seemed inappropriate and insensitive. This ep reminded me of the reporting tabloid newspapers do.
I enjoy listening to true crime but I feel that it should be done in a way that educates and has a positive impact on people’s understanding or gives back to victims. Sometimes there is a hint of victim blaming and due to some of the topics not really having a narrative I feel the episodes could be damaging rather than having a positive impact.
I think the podcast could be great because the topics are very well picked but more thought and respect should be given to the people/victims that are being reported on. Wishing that dead people are at peace seems very inauthentic. Also agree with other reviews that some of the reporting is very cringey.”
