“I want to like this podcast, but there are some mistakes that won’t let me engage completely.
I am an Art Historian, born and raised in Mexico City. I knew very little about California history before I moved here three years ago and today I work for one of the California Missions. I have been studying constantly and I want to keep learning more because honestly I need it for my work and I love it. That is why I am listening to this podcast.
Unfortunately I have noticed mistakes in this podcast that are big, specially when it comes to Spanish history and when you translate some words from Spanish to English.
A few examples: In the episode I just listened to, you mentioned that saint is santo and holy is santa. But santa is just the female for the word saint. If you have a male saint you use santo and if you have a female saint is santa. You also mentioned that Sebastian Vizcaíno, who explored California in the early 1600’s was contemporary to the Spanish war of succession that happened in the early 1700’s. You compare Francis Xavier, a jesuit from the 1500’s to Junipero Serra, a franciscan from the 1700’s and so on.
I like the general idea, I am still learning from this podcast, but there needs to be more attention to these mistakes that can make information confusing to some people.”
