Intelligent and accessible
Isaac Meyer’s podcast is excellent. His knowledge and research is apparent as he goes in-depth on a number of less well-known topics in the history of Japan. This is not a broad brush overview of Japan’s history, he goes into the details and motivations of specific historical events. It’s also not all dates and places, as he looks at literature, the arts, popular culture and sports among other topics. Yet, all is made accessible through Meyer’s intelligent narrative and deep understanding. This podcast has touched on subjects that I have also researched (I’m a Ph.D graduate from University of Auckland), so I can speak to the veracity of Meyer’s work. Although I might not always share his conclusions, I respect his viewpoint and his output.

I would give this pod another star if the sound was better and Mr. Meyer’s delivery is flat sometimes. But the content is awesome and I recommend this pod for someone...Read full review »
