“This guy knows his stuff, and because he speaks the language, doesn't make the often pronunciation errors that often plague other history podcasts. No one can match the production quality of Dan Carlin, but I am extremely fond of this podcast's approach.
Often, it easier to learn a subject by surveying it briefly but in full, and the author here does that for Japanese history. The first sets of episodes are a sufficiently-detailed-but-not-overly-so approach that I have rarely seen in other history podcasts (the History of Italian Unification one does great summaries in after their episodes, as a shout-out). From prehistory to the 2000's, we are given a succinct survey of the nation's history. Then he returns to specific subjects in extreme depth, bringing his knowledge (history doctorate?) and love of the topics.
Very good stuff.”
