“Great first effort by U. Wash PhD student Isaac Meyer— some persistent audio issues, but quality has also been persistently improving since the beginning episodes. Meyer’s primary area of expertise/ interest is military history— and this comes across in terms of the depth and quality of episodes on military and political historical topics compared to more general interest or popular culture topics. It’s been fun following Meyer on his journey through grad school as he has developed this podcast too! Meyer’s narrative and commentary style is dryly funny, and very factually dense. So, it can be easy to drift away from. Amateur audio production is far outweighed by Meyer’s professional historian’s chops. Pick and choose your topics from the feed carefully. Make sure you can commit some brain space to listening. And I guarantee even the most seasoned Japan ex-pat, know-it-all J-pop guru, or anime fan-boy or -girl will be able to learn plenty here. This is my first review of a podcast on iTunes. I am a historian and a teacher in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. 5 stars. Kudos.”
