History of the Bay LIVE PODCAST with Black C (RBL Posse), Herm Lewis & T.C. on July 27th in San Francisco - grab tix here: https://www.ticketweb.com/event/history-of-the-bay-podcast-brick-and-mortar-music-hall-tickets/13735123 -- Writing his first raps in 1982, Calvin T is a pioneer of Bay Area rap that is often left out of the history books. Coming out of Richmond, he met his rhyme partner Mack Magic Mike in juvenile hall and started recording his first tapes once he was released. As contemporaries of Too $hort and Freddy B, Calvin T and Magic Mike were early influences to the artists that followed like E-40, Mac Dre and Mac Mall. 40 even signed Calvin to Sick Wid It Records, but his album was never released. Calvin was introduced to the pimp game at age 13, and his rap career was derailed by multiple prison stints. On episode 17, we had Magic Mike tell their story and now we have Calvin T sharing his perspective in his most in-depth interview ever. -- Sponsored by Stem Social https://stemsocial.io https://instagram.com/stem.social Also sponsored by Lost Soul Courier Collective - call or text (415) 275-1922 for free Narcan delivery in San Francisco https://lostsoulcouriercollective.org For more info contact @traceyh415 -- For promo opportunities on the podcast, e-mail: [email protected] -- Produced by DEO @deo415, videography by @mvp_kingced --- History of the Bay Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3ZUM4rCv6xfNbvB4r8TVWU?si=9218659b5f4b43aa Online Store: https://dregsone.myshopify.com Follow Dregs One: Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1UNuCcJlRb8ImMc5haZHXF?si=poJT0BYUS-qCfpEzAX7mlA Instagram: https://instagram.com/dregs_one TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dregs_one Twitter: https://twitter.com/dregs_one Facebook: https://facebook.com/dregsone415 00:00 Introduction  02:49 Bars 04:29 Growing up in Richmond 08:06 The pimp game 11:01 Rapping in juvenile hall with Magic Mike 16:47 First tapes 18:38 Early days of rap 21:33 Pimp rap 27:27 Sam Bostic 28:44 Next generations of Bay Area rap  32:58 E-40 35:23 Prison 42:08 Violence in Richmond 44:42 Snoop Dogg repost  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/historyofthebay/support
