“I listened to the episode about John Lennon and wasn’t impressed. I’m 69 years old and the Beatles played a big part in my younger years. It’s dubious that Lennon’s alleged pact with the devil accounted for his (or Elvis for that matter) fame. Timing is everything and the Beatles entered the rock scene when it was going thru a major upheaval; in fact they played a big part in the evolution of rock n’ roll. As far as the fans going bonkers over the Beatles, this was not unique. 20 years earlier during the 1940’s, the “Bobby soxers” were bonkers for Frank Sinatra. He supposedly caused a riot in NYC due to his appeal to fans. Furthermore, fans screamed their lungs out for Swing musicians like Benny Goodman in the ‘40’s. John Lennon was a controversial man and he and the Beatles earned their acclaim because of their talent..which has stood the test of time.”
