“Great show; however, I must object to the characterization that prior military shouldn’t serve as law enforcement officers. As a retired military police we had the responsibility of protecting life (civilians & military) and property. During my 12 years I’ve never witnessed nor heard of a MP shooting an unarmed subject and/or abusing the people we served and protected. In my opinion there are 3 reasons why this is rare: 1) unlike our civilian counterparts, fear isn’t a first response when confronted with conflicts, so pulling weapons on people was rare. Consequently we enforced the law on “trained killers”. 2) accountability was a constant reminder. Knowing that we were not immune to consequences for our actions. Yes MPs are subject to prosecution just like any other soldier. Leavenworth and Manheim are for equal opportunity criminals. 3) we don’t think of ourselves more highly than our fellow soldiers. Our motto is Of the Troops and for the Troops. Honorable mention, we are disciplined and professional. A civilian off the streets experiences very little in the form of conflict resolution and is therefore prone to responding with fear. So I respectfully disagree with the notion of you and your guest’s beliefs that military shouldn’t be police officers.”
