“Chapter Seventeen” of House of Cards is a really strong episode. It features Frank being locked up with an implacable foe, Jackie coming into her own as House Majority Whip, and Claire deftly handling a very difficult solo interview with a reporter that has no sense of human decency.  It makes for some powerful human drama, and in it’s own way, as compelling, shocking, and jaw dropping as the death of a character. This is an episode full of damage control. “Chapter Eight” adds quite a bit of depth to the character of Frank Underwood, a character that even a half season in we just don’t know that much about.
