Tick season is approaching, so what can you do to avoid them? FOX's Alex Hein reports: This is Housecall for Health. Health officials have been warning about a dangerous tick season this summer, but what are some of the things you should do if you find one crawling on you? First off, remain calm. Just because you've been bitten doesn't automatically mean you'll get Lyme disease. Find a pair of tweezers to pull the full tick off of you, careful not to leave any pieces behind. Put the tick in a zip-block bag and ake a photo of it so you can identify it later and then dispose of the bag. You may have heard some people tell you to burn the tick off of you, but not only is that dangerous it could case the tick to release toxins into your body. While it takes up to twenty four hours for a tick to transmit lyme bacteria to a host, if you're worried about it or don't know when you were potentially bit, make an appointment with a doctor to get checked out. Otherwise, monitor the area for any irritation or the telltale bulls eye rash. For more on this story, check FOXNewsHealth.com. Housecall for Health, I'm Alex Hein, FOX News.
